Retaining walls are built from retaining wall blocks, brick, flagstone or boulders. They are mainly used to help tame a slope, divide outdoor spaces, elevate flower and vegetable gardens or to add additional seating. Retaining walls can help turn “ordinary” yards into beautiful and functional spaces.

We hired Highlands Landscaping to replace an aging retaining wall and completely re-landscaped our front and side yard to reduce our overall water use and maintenance. They did an excellent job and we are elated with the results. The construction of the new block retaining wall was a massive and complex project as we live on the side of Green Mountain. We did not come to them with a specific plan in mind. However, they had the vision, knowledge and craftsmanship to create a terrace design that was not only elaborate and beautiful but incredibly functional. It is a work in progress as we elected to do this project in the fall, Highland will wait for spring to install the plants and shrubs which will really bring our yard to life. More pictures to follow in the spring. Their crew was so eager to please and took great pride in their workmanship. From the beginning, the team listened to our goals and desires and provided us with a very detailed estimate at the outset. The project evolved over time as we refined the design together. Throughout the entire project, they were very communicative and transparent with adjustments to the budget.
